Legos, Trains and Trucks

Life changes fast. The day you were born, your daddy and I's life changed so much. So much we didn't even realize. You've gone from eating every few hours to a few times a day. Napping the day away (not as often as we'd thought you would) to only napping once or twice a day (some days, none at all!). You used to just lay there and wiggle your arms, trying to find your face or something to hold on to. Now you walk from room to room throughout the house and are gone in 2 seconds, usually chasing the cat around. Making only a coo or squeak before, to now speaking nearly 10-15 words and even some sign language too.

How did you get so smart so quick? Keep learning everyday, Jackson. But your daddy and I have one request. Don't grow up.

We love you! 18 months have flown by.

Legos, cats & cruising around

Happy Saturday! Fall is just about here, for us in the desert. A very "cool" evening run for me last night of 84 degrees felt so amazing. I could get use to this. I'm done with these 110+ days for a while.

Lots of playing and exploring  going on over here. Now that Jackson's more mobile, he's all over the place. He is ALMOST walking. He is a super fast crawler. If there are baby Olympics in crawling, he'd crush the 100-meter dash.

Me and my Lucy cat. She's such a good sport.

My new red bean bag chair.

My cool shades. What? There's a tag?

Playing with Legos at the store

Little guy. Gosh he looks so grown up, doesn't he?

I love food! Thanks Mom!

Just some randoms over the last couple weeks. Have a great weekend!

Little Bean

This time last year was a very different view than today. Hard to image it was just Josh, Lucy and I as we were patiently waiting for Baby Dewey to arrive. I understood the concept that I was about to become a Mom but what all that entailed I had absolutely no clue. The way in which this little person has changed us is amazing.

My letter to my little Bean. [it is long, and may bring happy tears. you've been warned]

Little Bean,

How time flies. Everyone says that, and yes I understand how fast it really does go. But goodness, nearly a year ago you came into this world as a small little person not having any idea what anything is and now you sit on the floor crawling all over, pulling yourself up, point at things (mainly the fan or window or Lucy the cat) and talking letting us know just what is going on. Nearly a year ago your biggest concern was eating and filling your tummy so you could rest. Now, still eating is a big thing but you also are concerned with where mommy went or what noise daddy is making and where Lucy ran to. The amount of knowledge and learning you've done in 11 short months is amazing. Growing hair, teeth and in length have been some big accomplishments and though painful at times (the teeth mainly) you have gotten through it with flying colors, and lots of cuddles from mommy and daddy.

20 years from now I will tell you the story of the day you were born. Gosh, this brings tears to my eyes now just writing this. Hang on for a second, it gets better. Your mom can be emotional at times, bare with me. I will tell you how your Uncle Jimmy and I played Wii bowling and ninja games all day which made you squirm lots in my belly. I'll tell you how your Memaw came out and we tried so hard to get you to come when she was here but you must have been shy. I'll tell you how a regular doctor's appointment turned into a trip to the hospital to be admitted and how you would make an appearance about 12 hours later.

While you have so many characteristics of both your mommy and daddy, many of which we are still learning and pointing out, you have lots of little things about you that remind us of your Memaw, Grandpa, Grandma Kim, Grandpa Dan, your Aunt Steph and Uncle Jimmy and even things about you remind me of your great grandma and grandpa whom you've never met and your grandpa Moon whom you've not met either. You truly are a mix and a melting pot of a person. That makes you so unique!

Continuously I sit and remember those first few weeks with you. Gosh how lost and helpless I felt. My instincts came into play as to what to do, but it sure took a while. There just is no training to do or learn with a newborn. I expected the sleepless nights, which were in play, and the long days. Looking back now, I feel kind of silly for the questions I had, but they were valid at the time. After all, this is my first time doing this as it was yours. We made it though. Nothing we couldn't handle. I laugh now, but I remember a number of nights where me or daddy would wake up to feed or change you and we would be searching through the blankets on our bed for you. You were safe in your crib next to our bed but we were so extremely tired we just thought you were right there next to us in bed, didn't help that we'd fallen asleep many times in our bed so this was a pretty valid thing. Sleep deprivation was well underway.

Many more years ahead of us now. This first year has been filled with so many laughs, giggles, cuddles, bumps, scrapes, naps and food fights. I want to remember everything about this first year. My heart is so full of love for you little guy, you may never know that. Your daddy and I are so proud of you and so proud to be your parents. God knew what he was doing when he chose us to be your parents and you to be our son. Tears again. I love you Jackson, more than you'll ever know.

Love, Mommy

Mr. Bean: 10 months old

My how time flies. The photos below were from back in June. Jackson was being pretty cute just sitting on the couch playing. He thinks he's such a big boy (and he is) sitting on the couch.

Hard to believe in 2 short months he will be 1 year old. Holy moly?! He's changed so much in just a short time. He's now 10 months old (photos are 1 month late, oops!)

He's currently working on his top two teeth coming in. It's been pretty rough. Chewing on everything. He has two on the bottom already. He is starting to pull himself up on things and wants to walk so badly. He can sit up, roll over and talk your ear off. He says "mmmmmaaaammmmaaaa" and "dadadadada" and "baabaabaa" and almost wants to say cat, or at least go eat her. Lucy is a trooper and puts up with everything.

He's eating lots of food, still mostly purees as he has trouble with textures of things. Sweet potato, avocado (fav), squash, zucchini, carrots, apples (fav), peaches, pears, peas (not so fav), oatmeal, cherry, blueberry, yogurt, puff cereal.

Still sleeping good through the night, except when teething. He's up 2-3 times and does not like/want to take a nap during the day. We're lucky if we get 45 min max (maybe 1 hr). Poor guy.

He is starting to prefer being spoon fed to the bottle. Yay on saving on formula?! He loves swimming and bath time. Anyone who's met him has commented on how he waves his arms when excited. I don't know where he learned it but it is the cutest thing ever!

We love our little Bean. Mommy better get cracking at this birthday stuff!

As old as he was in my belly

Get it? 9 months pregnant, 9 months old. Anyway...

Jackson is 9 months old today! Wow does time fly! Everyone says that, I know. And it's true!

Each new milestone is a huge deal and as a parent we make it a huge deal. I'm not kidding. When he smiles I get excited. When he giggles I go crazy. When he takes a nap, well I usually take one too, but that is exciting! And as a mom, don't even get me started on poop, that is exciting stuff right there I don't care who you are!

Jackson has made my life better in so many ways. Watching Josh and I as parents has also helped us realize just what life is about. The little things. It doesn't matter if the house is a mess. If I've taken a shower today (though that is a perk!). Whether we missed our favorite TV show. TV? What's that?

Hard to believe 9 months have come and gone. Before I know it, his 1st birthday will be here. And then soon after he'll be driving. Ok, maybe there are a few more years in there.

Here's to you Little Bean. Mama loves you so much. Thank you for being such a personality and learning so much so quick!

Seven Months

This guy is 7 months old! Time is just flying right by. We went to the pool the other day to test out the water and Jackson was so curious about it. He loves taking baths so it was just a glorified bath to him. He was so intrigued!

So let's see some of his stats after 7 whole months of age:

He likes Pears, Sweet Potatoes, Apples, Squash, Avocado, Banana, slightly Carrots and of course cereal.
He's testing out the sippy cup and how to hold it with both hands. As for drinking out of it, he's just mastering holding it.
He puts EVERYTHING and ANYTHING in his mouth.
Speaking of his mouth, he has 2 bottom teeth that came in about 3 weeks ago. Poor guy is still battling some pain. He's done so great though!
Still in size 2 diapers, almost bordering size 3.
Weighs 17 lbs (almost 18) and is 27 inches long. This guy is getting heavy!
He sleeps through the night still, though wakes up from time to time.
He has gotten much more needy and needs his mama. I can't blame him, I hate to be away from him too!
He makes sounds like "Mmmmmmaaaammma" "Daathda" "mmmmmba" (bottle?).
He likes being on his tummy and can swirl and push backward, no crawling yet.

For only being 7 months old he sure does a lot!

I love this little guy and all the time we spend together.
He loves to wear no clothes, just his diaper!

Love this fresh food feeder. It's like popsicles. "Thanks mom, this makes my tooths feel better"

Trying out the sippy cup.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
