Living it up in AZ!

Well we've got all moved in, still unpacking, but are enjoying our new place. Every night so far we've gone to the hot tub to sit, taken walks around the complex, worked out together, had dinner by candlelight on our "veranda" as Josh likes to call it, also called the " Lanai' " in Hawaii as my mom informed me. So needless to say, we've been getting used to our new place quite nicely!

Lucy has been enjoying playing in all the boxes; so much that we've lose her a couple of times. No worries though, she's been found sleeping nice and cozy!

Work has been good for me, getting settled in and learning the ropes. On my first day of shift we even had some weather activity. This type of weather Colorado usually sees in late May so it was a nice change to see it in March. It has been cool for the last couple of days (to you in Colorado, 'cool' still means warmer than you, sorry!) but it should be warming up here in a few days. I've heard so much about the Monsoon season during the late summer time I'm really excited to see what it has in store.

We still don't have internet or cable at home yet, so we use the internet when we get a chance. With this being said, I still don't have any pictures to load on here, sorry! Will be updating this MORE often though!

Arizona

Well we have officially made it to Arizona! We got in late last night and are in a hotel for a few days before we move into our new condo. Can't believe we are going to live here: it's so warm and beautiful right now! We had a lot of good-bye's to say and were very sad to say good-bye to all of our friends and family. It really was great to see everyone and were so blessed to have everyone show up to see us off. I'm really going to miss seeing all those babies that will be born in the next 2 weeks to 8 months!

The drive down was a slow and steady one. Josh did most all of the driving (thanks babe!) as we pulled my car with his car. It was a pretty nice adventure either way we looked at it. Lucy did great also!

As soon as I can hook up my camera I will upload some pictures. My goal will be to keep up with this blog a lot more often now!

New year, New changes

So as the new year began new changes began to take place. My current student position at the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) in Boulder, CO has come to an end after I graduated in December. So in order to continue as a full time government employee I needed a Weather Forecast Office (WFO) somewhere in the US to pick me up and offer me a position. Luckily I was offered a position at an office in Phoenix, AZ. So it looks like that is where we will be heading. Josh and I took a trip down to Arizona for a weekend to look around and try to get to know some of the area. It was pretty and very easy to get our bearings on where we were. Took me a little while to get used to not having mountains to my west; the "mountains" in Phoenix are much smaller mountains.Papago Park in Phoenix, AZ.

This will be a big move for both Josh and I as neither of us have ever lived in another state, moved out of state or left our families. It is an adventure though!

Wintertime fun!

Winter has begun! It was a slow start to winter, atleast the snow fall anyway. But rapidly got to a jump. We've had very cold temperatures (single digits and even a few days below zero!) and wind! But the sun still shined for many days. Winter is far from over here in Colorado, as the coldest and snowiest months have yet to come! We still find time to be silly though. Snowman built by Josh.

In November I decided it was time to chop off the hair. I cut 12 inches off and donated it to Locks of Love, a charity for young girls who undergo cancer and chemotherapy treatments and lost their hair. This way wigs can be made for the girls.

Me and my dad!

The family at graduation.

One HUGE thing that happened to me this past year (December was last year, hello!) was graduating from UNC with my Bachelor's degree in Meteorology! There were four of us that graduated (Chris, Geoff, Brooke as well as me).

This winter went pretty fast, not that it is over yet though. The holidays were good. My brother Jimmy came home from California for Christmas and Josh, Jimmy and I went on our yearly ski/snowboard trip. This time we went to Snowy Range, WY. What a blast! Not a big mountain but CHEAP lift tickets!

Colorado Snow Blizzard--Oct 2009

We all know living in Colorado means snow can come at basically any time of the year and we can also experience all four seasons in one day. The snow storm that hit Colorado late Tuesday into Wednesday (27-28 Oct 2009) was a pretty good sign that winter is coming and mother nature means business! Colorado has has it's share of Major Storms in the past; this one definitely ranks among those. With snow fall totals sneaking up around 4 feet in some mountain/foothill areas and in the Metro Denver area reaching 13 inches at Channel 7 news station, Greeley receiving 12 inches and Boulder near 19 inches as of Thursday morning (29 Oct 2009). With the added ingredients of gusty winds from the North/Northwest visibility became a problem as well as temperatures dipping into the aching cold side. Snow drifts also present from the wind; personally at my house in Greeley after shoveling around 4pm Wednesday a mere 45 minutes later it didn't even look like we shoveled! I didn't get to take many pictures, but I'll see about posting some. Stay warm and stay home if you can!!
